I written about the gear I take bikepacking and how I decide what not to include. I’ve also mentioned how I deal with eating during the day. My first adventure had me stopping at a village store and wanting to ride from there to a better place to consume my purchases. I resorted to stuffing it all into the front of my jersey, which wasn’t ideal. By the time of the next trip I had considered a suggestion; that of a mousette or shoulder bag.

But when it came to find a place for it, there wasn’t room. Even tightly rolled up it was cumbersome. So I left it at home and once again filled my jersey with food.

So when I watched a youtube video where the host mentioned a packable rucksack I bought one. The thought of it hadn’t entered my mind before; I didn’t know they existed.

As you can see it is stowed in it’s own bag; I’ve included my head unit to give an idea of size. It could easily fit in a jersey pocket. When opened it holds 10 litres which is more than enough capacity for lunch or evening meal supplies.

I went for a ride on the spring bank holiday. It was supposed to have been mostly off-road, so I anticipated a lack of cafes and shops. As it was I got lost and most of the route was on tarmac. I passed through East Grinstead so lunch was easy to obtain. I could also shelter from the rain. I stopped later when the rain appeared to have abated to eat my prepared food; contained in the rucksack.

I can also take it on shopping errands; it being so convenient to carry.
