We met Sunday morning by the gate at around ten then split into groups and headed off. Two loops were available depending as always on how far you wanted to ride.

We all left along a route that started at the river again, before joining: the Crab and Winkle way, the Oyster Bay way, then the Viking Coastal Trail. A great way to leave the city and get to the coast.

At Herne Bay we stopped for coffee. This was to be a very leisurely day.

At St Mary’s abbey, Reculver, we joined the Northern Sea Wall. Wide, smooth and fast to Minnis Bay where we regrouped.

It had been fairly rough surface until this point.

If there is one thing we like, it’s helping someone fix a puncture. It attracts a crowd.

The lunch stop was in Sandwich. As had been the case on Saturday, we met the other groups along the way. Either passing them on the road or at various places along the route. Club rides doesn’t usually have so many cafe stops. But the weather was good and the day was dedicated to cycling so it was nice to have time to chat. Especially with people from other groups. We normally only see each other at the start of a weekend ride. I hope I can join future away days. I know more are planned.

Unfortunatley the sandwich shop, that was it’s name, had no vegan options. But the No Name Shop on No Name Street did. I must admit to not having high hopes, the French do love to add cheese to most food items. But this place was brilliant. I even forgave them charging 20 pence for cows milk alternatives. A wide range of food was on offer. I choose a pesto wrap and apple pie. Both were delicious. The pie being up there with the best I’ve tasted. So good was my meal I almost forgot to take a picture.

Totally content we headed towards Canterbury, ending as we began along the Great Stour river path.

A table had been booked for fifteen at Côte Brasserie. The numbers increased. Eventually I think everyone who was still in the city came along - nearly thirty. Wonderful company, great food and welcoming, helpful staff. A brilliant combination.
