I wish…
Two words that we frequently use when reflecting on the past can be highly detrimental.
While the previous sentence may seem somewhat simplistic, it is challenging to completely eliminate these words from our minds. As I have embarked on the process of writing my autobiography, I have found that contemplating the past has become a recurring thought.
Most individuals who engage in self-reflection will likely utter these words. It is impossible to live our lives with certainty about the future, and it is unfair to blame ourselves for missed opportunities, unspoken or spoken words, and actions taken or not taken.
The most prudent approach is to make decisions based on the available information at the time. We should use our moral principles to guide our spoken or silent words. Additionally, we should consider our reactions to others and situations.
When we critically examine our history, this new perspective can help temper our emotions.
Revising history is not feasible, regardless of how bitter or regretful we may feel; the past is the past. The only viable course of action is to utilise this new perspective to enhance our future. We should not take our time for granted. While this may sound clichéd and simplistic, it can liberate us to embrace positivity, which in turn influences our outlook.
